Naseeruddin Shah comes forward to support Diljit Dosanjh

Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has come forward to defend Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh, who has been caught in the middle of a controversy surrounding his latest film Sardaar Ji 3. The film has drawn backlash following the casting of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, a decision that sparked criticism due to the current strained relations between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack.

Addressing the issue through a note shared on his official Facebook page, Shah made it clear that he stands in full support of Diljit. “I STAND FIRMLY WITH DILJIT,” he declared, stressing that the actor should not be held accountable for choices that were not his to make. He explained that the casting was handled by the film’s director and not by Diljit himself. “He was not responsible for the casting of the film, the director was. But no one knows who he is, whereas Diljit is known the world over, and he agreed to the cast because his mind is not poisoned,” Shah wrote.

Amid the backlash, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, who directed Diljit in Amar Singh Chamkila, also offered his support.
