One person feared dead after fire destroys Fraser Lake Inn and nearby business
A person is believed to have died following an early morning fire that destroyed the Fraser Lake Inn and a neighbouring commercial building in the community of Fraser Lake.
The Fraser Lake RCMP said officers were called to the scene at approximately 3:06 a.m. on February 22 after reports of a structure fire at the Fraser Lake Inn. When police arrived, they learned that an individual had reportedly re-entered the building and had not been located.

B.C. paramedics reach tentative contract deal, strike action averted
The union representing more than 6,000 ambulance paramedics and emergency dispatchers across British Columbia says it has reached an agreement in principle on a new collective agreement, avoiding the possibility of job action.
The Ambulance Paramedics of BC announced the tentative deal following what it described as extensive negotiations with the Health Employers Association of BC and the provincial government. Earlier this month, 97 per cent of participating members voted in favour of strike action, placing the union in a legal strike position pending an essential services order.

New Westminster police seize pills and cash in Queensborough drug trafficking probe
Police in New Westminster say a targeted drug trafficking investigation has led to the seizure of a significant quantity of pills, other suspected drugs and cash from a property in the Queensborough neighbourhood.
According to the New Westminster Police Department, its Street Crime Unit launched the investigation in January and worked alongside another regional policing agency. Officers later executed a search warrant at a residence in Queensborough as part of the ongoing probe.

B.C. commits $50 million to expand nasal naloxone access amid ongoing overdose crisis
The British Columbia government says it will invest $50 million over the next two years to increase access to nasal naloxone kits as part of its response to the province’s ongoing overdose emergency.
Health Minister Josie Osborne said the funding will allow nasal naloxone to account for roughly half of the more than 400,000 take home naloxone kits distributed each year in B.C. The province first declared the toxic drug crisis a public health emergency in April 2016, and officials say it continues to have widespread impacts on families and communities.

Burnaby RCMP warn seniors after couple loses $300,000 in impersonation scam
Burnaby RCMP are warning residents to remain vigilant after an elderly couple lost approximately $300,000 in a fraud scheme involving someone posing as a police officer.
Police say the couple, both in their 80s, reported the incident on January 28 after being contacted by an individual claiming to be an RCMP officer. The caller allegedly told them their bank account had been compromised and instructed them to transfer their money to protect it.

B.C. Conservative MLA John Rustad says he will not enter the party’s leadership race, ending speculation about a possible return bid.

Man arrested after alleged vehicle thefts and fire in East Vancouver
Vancouver Police say a 41-year-old man is in custody following a series of incidents in East Vancouver on Wednesday afternoon that involved a stolen motorcycle, a damaged work truck, and a small vehicle fire.
According to investigators, the sequence began shortly before 1:50 p.m. on February 12, when a motorcycle was reported stolen near Main Street and Industrial Avenue.
