Police operation in Fraser Valley leads to arrests and seizure of firearms, drugs, and cash

A coordinated police response across the Upper Fraser Valley led to the arrest of two men and the seizure of firearms, drugs, and cash following an attempted traffic stop that began in Hope and ended in Chilliwack late Monday evening.

Hope RCMP officers first attempted to stop a vehicle around December 23 in connection with several driving violations. The driver failed to pull over, and officers chose not to pursue the vehicle due to public safety concerns. Details about the suspect vehicle were then shared with Chilliwack RCMP, who located it as it entered the city along Highway 1.

Police maintained surveillance using unmarked units while coordinating a controlled response. Officers deployed a tire deflation device, which slowed the vehicle and allowed police to safely contain the situation. With assistance from the Integrated Police Dog Service, the vehicle was immobilized without injuries to officers or the public.

Two men were taken into custody without incident, including a 27 year old from Chilliwack and a 21 year old from Vancouver. A subsequent search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of two handguns, a significant quantity of various illicit drugs, and thousands of dollars in cash.

Police say the incident highlights the importance of inter agency cooperation in addressing gun and drug related crime in the Fraser Valley. Sgt. Alexandra Greenley said the coordinated response ensured public safety while removing illegal firearms and drugs from local streets.

Investigators are preparing a report recommending criminal charges, which will be forwarded to Crown counsel for review.
