5 soldiers shot at Army's Fort Stewart in Georgia, base reports

BY (The Associated Press), Aug 6, 2025 5:10 PM - REPORT AN ERROR

The Army's Fort Stewart in Georgia says five soldiers were shot and the base was locked down before a shooter was arrested. A spokesperson says parts of Fort Stewart in southeast Georgia were locked down Wednesday after a shooter was reported on the sprawling Army post.

Schools on the base and nearby were locked down. The army said the shooter has been arrested and there's no threat to the community.

Fort Stewart is the largest Army post east of the Mississippi River. It's home to thousands of soldiers assigned to the Army's 3rd Infantry Division and family members.
