A 37-year-old Calgary man is facing multiple extortion charges following an investigation into a series of threats reported by a woman in the city’s northeast.

The investigation began in September 2025 when the woman contacted police to report repeated attempts throughout 2024 to force her to hand over money and valuables. According to police, the incidents occurred between August and October 2024, during which the suspects allegedly demanded payment and threatened violence if she refused. Authorities say the individuals involved were known to the victim.

In December 2025, investigators launched an operation aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible. As a result, Jaspreet Gill, 37, of Calgary, has been charged with six counts of extortion. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 10, 2026.

Police also confirmed that, during the same operation but in a separate matter, Harpreet Gill, 28, of Calgary, was charged with one count of fraud over $5,000, one count of fraud under $5,000 and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle. She is set to appear in court on April 6, 2026.

Although the case involved a member of the South Asian community, investigators say it appears to be an isolated incident and not linked to other recent extortion reports. Police note that both suspects were known to the victim.

The Calgary Police Service and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams continue to investigate a broader extortion series targeting members of the South Asian community.
