RCMP investigate two targeted overnight shootings in North Cowichan and Duncan

BY Connect Newsroom - Jasmine Singh, Dec 17, 2025 6:14 PM - REPORT AN ERROR

RCMP in the Cowichan Valley are investigating two separate overnight shootings that police believe were targeted, involving a residence in North Cowichan and vehicles in Duncan.

Officers were first called to the 5800 block of Jaynes Road in North Cowichan at around 4:45 a.m. on December 15 after reports of multiple gunshots. While initial patrols did not immediately locate the source, further searches by the Investigation Support Team, Street Crimes Unit, and a Police Service Dog led to evidence showing a nearby home had been struck by gunfire. No injuries were reported.

A second incident was reported early December 17, shortly before 2:45 a.m., in the 1000 block of Marchmont Road in Duncan. Police located two vehicles that appeared to have been deliberately shot. A short time later, officers found an older model Jeep Cherokee fully engulfed in flames on Herd Road, which investigators believe is connected to the Marchmont Road shooting.

RCMP say the incidents, while alarming, do not appear to be random. Corporal Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the BC RCMP, said investigators believe the shootings were targeted and that police are actively working to identify and arrest those responsible. He added that public safety remains a priority and urged anyone with information to come forward.

Both investigations remain active, and police say no further details can be released at this time as inquiries continue.
