A 42-year-old man from Birmingham, England, has been charged in Quebec City in connection with the disappearance of a 16-year-old girl from the United Kingdom.
Quebec City police arrested the man on Monday near Montmorency Falls, a well-known tourist site north of the city, after a request for assistance from West Midlands Police in England. Authorities say the teenager was located with the accused and is in good physical condition.
The man has been charged with sexual touching of a person under 18 while in a position of authority. His arrest followed a coordinated international investigation involving the RCMP, Interpol, the Canada Border Services Agency, Quebec provincial police, and law enforcement in the U.K.
During a court appearance on Tuesday, the Crown opposed his release. The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to return to court on Friday.
