The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has urged the Supreme Court to direct the Central Government to make an early decision on the petition seeking commutation of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana’s death sentence.

SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami stated that the Committee will once again write to both the Supreme Court and the Prime Minister's Office, requesting the release of Bhai Rajoana and Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara.

Dhami recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised relief for imprisoned Sikhs during the 550th Gurpurab celebrations of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. However, no concrete steps have been taken to fulfill that promise, he said.

Speaking to the media, Dhami also revealed that Bhai Rajoana has asked the SGPC to consider withdrawing the government’s petition for the commutation of his death sentence, an option the Committee is now evaluating.
