Surrey Police Service is investigating a shooting that damaged a home and vehicle in the Panorama Ridge neighbourhood early Thursday morning, part of what police believe may be an ongoing pattern of extortion-related violence in the city.

Officers were called to the 13400 block of 56 Avenue shortly before 1 am after reports of gunfire. Police say they found evidence of shots fired at a residence and a nearby vehicle. No injuries were reported.

The SPS Frontline Investigative Support Team attended the scene, and the Major Crime Section has now taken over the investigation. Police say the case remains in its early stages as officers continue to collect physical evidence and review available video.

While investigators have not confirmed a motive, police say the incident appears to be connected to a broader series of extortion-related cases that have been reported in Surrey in recent months. Authorities have previously warned residents and business owners to report threats or suspicious activity, noting that early reporting can help prevent escalation.

Police are asking anyone with information, including dashcam or CCTV footage from the area around the time of the shooting, to contact Surrey Police Service. Tips can be provided to the non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Canada’s Economy Contracts in Fourth Quarter of 2025 as Annual Growth Slows

Canada’s economy recorded a contraction in the final three months of 2025, defying earlier expectations of stable growth, according to new data released by Statistics Canada on Friday. The federal agency reported that real gross domestic product declined at an annualized rate of 0.6 per cent in the October to December quarter. Economists had anticipated little to no change during that period. The slowdown was attributed in part to weaker residential investment and lower inventory rebuilding by manufacturers. Statistics Canada said companies met demand by drawing down existing inventories ins
