The United States and Israel carried out coordinated airstrikes Sunday on multiple sites inside Iran, targeting what officials described as ballistic missile facilities and naval assets.
The action follows reports circulating in regional media and online claiming the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. As of publication, there has been no independent confirmation from Iranian state authorities regarding those claims.
U.S. President Donald Trump said nine Iranian naval vessels were destroyed in the operation and claimed senior Iranian officials had expressed interest in negotiations with Washington. Iranian officials, in statements carried by state media, rejected that assertion and said Tehran would not engage in talks with the United States under current conditions.
Unconfirmed reports Monday also cited explosions in Gulf cities including Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Authorities in those jurisdictions had not publicly detailed the cause of the reported blasts at publication time.
Connect Newsroom contacted representatives of the White House and the Iranian government for additional comment. No response was received by publication time.
Context: Escalation between Iran and Israel has periodically raised concerns about broader regional conflict affecting global energy markets and Gulf security. It remains unclear whether further military action is planned or whether diplomatic channels will reopen.
