Alberta pair charged in historic northern Ontario sexual assault case

BY Connect Newsroom - Jasmine Singh, Nov 27, 2025 2:46 PM - REPORT AN ERROR

Alberta RCMP say two people now living in Wetaskiwin County have been charged in connection with a sexual assault investigation launched in northern Ontario, involving incidents reported to have occurred several years ago. According to the Ontario Provincial Police, the alleged offences took place in Gillies Township, a rural community southwest of Thunder Bay, between 2020 and 2022.

Investigators have charged a 73-year-old man with two counts of sexual interference and two counts of sexual assault involving a person under the age of 16. A 63-year-old woman is facing three counts of assault. Police say both individuals previously lived in the Thunder Bay area before relocating to Alberta.

Authorities in Ontario note that the investigation has been ongoing for some time and involved coordination across provincial jurisdictions. The accused are scheduled to make a court appearance in Ontario next month. Similar interprovincial cases occasionally draw attention in Alberta communities such as Wetaskiwin, where police often remind the public that historical allegations can still lead to charges when evidence supports further action.
