Prime Minister Mark Carney is using the World Economic Forum in Davos to promote Canada as a stable and competitive destination for global investment, as economic uncertainty and geopolitical tensions continue to shape international markets.

Carney is scheduled to deliver a speech and take part in a series of meetings with political leaders and corporate executives during the annual gathering, which brings together decision makers from governments, finance, and industry. He is also expected to meet later today with French President Emmanuel Macron, whose country is chairing the G7 this year.

The Davos visit follows stops in Beijing and Qatar last week, part of a broader effort by the federal government to expand trade and investment ties beyond the United States. Ottawa has been emphasizing market diversification as Canadian exporters and energy producers, including those in Alberta, seek greater access to international partners.

Carney has acknowledged criticism over Canada’s approach to human rights abroad, saying the country must engage with the global economy as it exists while continuing to advocate for democratic values. His message in Davos is focused on long-term growth, economic resilience, and positioning Canada as a reliable partner in a changing world.

The forum’s theme this year is “a spirit of dialogue,” with U.S. President Donald Trump expected to address participants on Wednesday. Discussions are expected to centre on global trade, security, and investment at a time of heightened political and economic strain.
