Police in Delta say they are investigating a shooting at a residential property that is believed to be connected to an ongoing extortion case, though no one was injured.

Officers were called to a home near 84 Avenue and Brooke Road early Wednesday morning after reports that shots had been fired toward the residence. Police confirmed that several people were inside the home at the time of the incident, but none were hurt.

Details about potential suspects or the circumstances surrounding the shooting have not been released. Delta Police say the investigation has been handed over to major crime investigators due to its suspected link to organized extortion activity.

The shooting comes amid a broader rise in extortion-related violence across British Columbia, particularly targeting members of Canada’s South Asian community. In recent years, dozens of similar incidents have been reported, including shootings and threats directed at homes and businesses.

The growing number of cases led the province to establish a specialized task force last year, aimed at coordinating police efforts and addressing the organized nature of the extortion schemes.
