Farmer unions in Punjab say they will stage a statewide railway blockade on December 5 to highlight what they describe as unresolved demands related to minimum support price legislation and other pending issues. The action has been announced by the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Morcha, which has been leading several recent mobilizations in the state.

Union representative Sarwan Singh Pandher said the protest will be symbolic and peaceful, adding that its purpose is to draw the attention of both the central and Punjab governments to long-standing commitments farmers believe remain unaddressed. He noted that groups may consider expanding their campaign if there is no progress in the coming weeks.

Farmer organizations in Punjab have continued to press for a legal guarantee on minimum support price and timely policy decisions tied to agricultural reforms. The issue has been at the centre of rural political debate in the region, with farm unions arguing that delays are affecting crop planning, input costs and household incomes.

The blockade is expected to disrupt rail services across multiple districts, a development that could affect commuters and freight operations in northern India. Authorities in Punjab say they are monitoring the situation and coordinating with federal agencies to manage transportation impacts.
