Man dies in crash involving school bus near Millet, Alta., no students injured

BY Connect Newsroom - Jasmine Singh, Dec 5, 2025 5:18 PM - REPORT AN ERROR

A 70-year-old man from Sherwood Park has died after an SUV collided head-on with a school bus on a rural road south of Edmonton. RCMP were called to the intersection near Millet shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday, where officers found the SUV driver deceased at the scene.

Police say five people were on the bus, including four students, and none of them were injured. The bus was operating within the Wetaskiwin-area school system, which serves families across central Alberta, including commuters who regularly travel the region’s grid roads during winter weather.

Investigators say poor road conditions are being considered as a possible factor. The Edmonton region has been dealing with snowfall mixed with rain and temperatures hovering around freezing, creating icy patches on rural routes that many school buses rely on.

The crash comes as school divisions across Alberta remind families to expect delays and cancellations during early winter storms, which can have a significant impact on transportation safety in rural communities.
