The number of extortion related files with Surrey police in 2025 has reached 74. Of these, 39 cases were shooting related.
Just around a couple of weeks ago, this number was reported to have reached 57. Meanwhile, shots were also fired in the 7800 block of 124 Street in Surrey at around 2:45 a.m. yesterday (Sunday, Oct. 25).
There were people inside the house at the time of the incident, but no one was injured.
It has not yet been confirmed that this incident is related to extortion, although the matter is suspected to be extortion-related.
Connect FM reached out to Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton from Surrey Police Service today, who confirmed “year to date in 2025 there have been 74 extortion related files in Surrey and 39 of these have been shooting related.” He also confirmed the Surrey shooting at 124street is not yet a part of the extortion related files.
Yesterday, when shots were fired in Surrey, a shooting incident also happened in the 11200 block of 78B Avenue in Delta, a short distance from the scene in Surrey. The Delta incident has been described as an extortion-related incident.
Staff Sgt. Houghton confirmed today that the locations of both incidents are very close and the incidents also happened at around the same time, and for this reason, Delta Police has also been contacted.
He said, “although Delta Police have confirmed the extortion angle in the case, the motive for the incident in Surrey is currently being investigated.”
