Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to visit India during the first week of March, as part of Canada’s broader effort to strengthen economic partnerships beyond the United States. Government sources indicate discussions during the visit could focus on cooperation in uranium, energy, critical minerals and artificial intelligence.

The proposed trip is seen as a key step in Ottawa’s strategy to diversify trade and reduce reliance on the U.S. market. India’s growing economy and demand for energy and advanced technology make it a strategic partner for Canada, particularly as global supply chains continue to shift.

Carney is also expected to spend much of 2026 engaged in international travel aimed at building new trade alliances. In March, he may also visit Australia, where he could address Parliament in Canberra. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said earlier that Carney is expected to travel to Australia that month.

In April, the prime minister could travel to Brazil to advance talks on a potential trade deal. His schedule is also expected to include the G7 leaders’ summit in France in June, followed by a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, on July 7 and 8.

Later in the year, Carney may return to China in November to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Shenzhen, continuing Canada’s engagement with major global economies.
