A 17-year-old boy remains in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene late Saturday night in Richmond, according to RCMP.

Police say officers were called just after 11:25 p.m. to reports of a disturbance in the 4200 block of No. 3 Road. When they arrived, they found the teenager unconscious and suffering serious injuries. He was taken to hospital by paramedics, where he continues to receive life-saving care.

Investigators believe the collision followed an altercation near the roadway. The incident has prompted a parallel investigation into an alleged assault causing bodily harm, alongside the hit-and-run.

Video circulating on social media appears to show several youths involved in a fight in a nearby parking lot before running onto No. 3 Road. Moments later, a loud impact is heard as one individual is struck by a passing vehicle, which does not stop.

Richmond RCMP say the suspect vehicle is believed to be a dark-coloured Ford Fiesta, model years between 2014 and 2019, possibly with front-end damage. Police stress that leaving the scene of a collision is a serious Criminal Code offence.

The RCMP Serious Crime Unit is leading the investigation and is asking witnesses or anyone with dashcam or cellphone footage to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2026-1055.
