HMPV Increases Concern in India, More Cases Reported
There have been 8 reported cases of HMPV, a virus similar to the coronavirus, in India. On Tuesday, two cases were reported in Nagpur, Maharashtra, where a 13-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy were found to be infected.
Both children had persistent cold and fever. When tested at a private lab, both tested positive for HMPV.
However, neither required hospitalization. After receiving treatment, their condition is now under control.

Children to Require Parental Consent for Social Media Accounts in India
In India, children under 18 will soon need parental consent to create social media accounts. On Friday, PM Narendra Modi's government unveiled a draft of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, which includes this provision.
The draft also mandates that companies obtain government approval before transferring personal data outside India. However, it does not specify penalties for non-compliance with the rules.
The government has invited public feedback on the proposed regulations. A final decision will be made after February 18, incorporating the views of citizens.

Punjab BJP Likely to Get a New President Soon
The Punjab BJP is set to elect a new president, with the party initiating the preliminary process for the selection. Sunil Jakhar has resigned from the post, though his resignation has not been officially accepted. However, Jakhar has been consistently absent from party meetings.
Jakhar did not campaign for the BJP in recent by-elections, as well as in the Panchayat and Municipal Council elections. Supreme Court-Formed Committee to Meet Farmers in Panchkula on January 3
Amid the ongoing farmers' agitation in Punjab, a Supreme Court-appointed committee has scheduled a meeting with farmers on January 3 in Panchkula to discuss their issues in detail.
The committee, led by former Justice Nawab Singh, was formed by the Supreme Court to address farmers' grievances. Earlier, the High Power Committee held a meeting with the administration and farmers in Chandigarh.

Farmers' Punjab Bandh Receives Overwhelming Response

Former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to Be Cremated Tomorrow
Former Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will be cremated tomorrow, Saturday, with full state honours. Dr. Singh, who earned his bachelor's degree in economics in 1952 and his master's in 1954 from Panjab University, also served as a senior economics professor there from 1957 to 1966.
His former office and chair at the university have been preserved, and the room where he once worked is being renovated. Dr. Singh last attended a program at Panjab University in Chandigarh in 2018.

India’s former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, widely regarded as the architect of India’s economic reform program and a landmark nuclear deal with the United States, has died. He was 92.
