Kapil Sharma’s quick wit landed him in an unexpectedly awkward moment during a recent Netflix event, when a joke about international gangsters slipped out — and went live. While chatting on stage, the comedian playfully hinted that not just fans, but “gangsters from a couple of countries” seemed to be watching him these days. The line drew laughs, but Kapil immediately realised it might be a little too close to reality and asked the crew to cut it out, only to be told the show was streaming live.
The exchange, now viral, unfolded during a light-hearted back-and-forth with Netflix India’s content head Monika Shergill, who joked about how many eyes were on Kapil.
The moment struck a chord because of real events from 2025. Kapil and his wife Ginni Chatrath’s café in Surrey, Canada, was targeted in multiple shooting incidents, with different groups later claiming responsibility. While no one was hurt, the attacks led to increased security around the comedian.
