Delhi High Court Halts Release of Udaipur Files, Asks Centre to Decide on Certification

BY Connect Newsroom, Jul 11, 2025 3:54 PM - REPORT AN ERROR

The movie, starring Vijay Raaz, was slated to release on July 11.

The Delhi High Court has stayed the release of Udaipur Files, a film based on the 2022 murder of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal, until the central government reviews requests for a permanent ban. The movie, starring Vijay Raaz, was slated to release on July 11.

A bench comprising Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Anish Dayal instructed the petitioners who are also accused in the Kanhaiya Lal case to submit their concerns to the Centre within two days. The petitioners argued that the film’s release could compromise their right to a fair trial.

Acknowledging that the petitioners had not yet approached the government for redress, the court ruled that a stay on the film's release will remain in effect until the Centre decides on the interim relief application.
