Actor Ranveer Singh has landed in legal trouble months after drawing criticism for reenacting a Daiva-inspired moment from Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 at a public event. According to reports, an FIR was registered at Bengaluru’s High Grounds Police Station, accusing the actor of offending Hindu religious sentiments linked to the Chavundi Daiva tradition of coastal Karnataka.

The complaint, filed by Bengaluru-based advocate Prashanth Methal, alleges that during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on November 28, 2025, Ranveer made inappropriate remarks and performed a stage act that trivialised sacred Daiva practices. The FIR claims he mimicked the expressions of Panjurli and Guliga Daiva in a mocking manner and referred to Chavundi Daiva as a “female ghost,” which the complainant described as a serious distortion of a revered guardian deity symbolising divine feminine power.

Following public backlash, Ranveer Singh issued an apology on social media, stating that his intention was only to appreciate Rishab Shetty’s performance and that he never meant to disrespect any culture or belief, adding that he sincerely regretted hurting sentiments.
